PADDINGTON: (start from 0.37)

Cinematography:

  • long shot of paddington reflects lonelieness - with the lighting as a heavenly
  • camera flows movement of the family until they pass paddington, showing who the main focus is
  • close up of facial reactions
  • long shot to highlight a sweet moment and reveals where he was sitting
  • shows the two of them in close proximity
  • shot from the side, shows the distance of others and them being in the middle
  • as the  mum rotates her head, camera rotates
  • POV shot from mum as camera tilts onto tag (a well known symbol of paddington)
  • warm colouring of whole film, adds a positivity

mise-en-scene:
  • modern winter costumes, yet slightly abstract (artistic) to highlight the family's difference (fits into the aesthetic of the film)
  •  paddington's hat (memory), suitcase and evacuee tag
  • set of the train station
  • lost and found - when hope, the light flashes on
  • light from door shines directly onto paddington - pureness and genuine
  • realistic setting shows how the fantasy of it could be believable to targeted audience
  • 'please look after this bear, thank you'
Editing:

  • quick paced editing between conversation to show reactions
  • elongated shots when walking, following movements
audio:

  • high heels against floor
  • soundtrack in moments of hope - when sally hawkins first appears and when he can stay (violins and harp)
  • blink of the lightbulbs in 'found' - emphasis
  • dialogue - british euphimisms, story-telling and questions
