Under The Skin - humanity

What are good and bad qualities of humanity?

One of humanity’s most fundamental motives is compassion and empathy, the ability to feel pity due to a relation in the situation. This gives a connection to people, enables them to bond together. However this could also be considered to be a fatal flaw for life, since empathy can result in the breaking of your own characteristics, such as overwhelming pity.

In Under The Skin, this is the critical theme. Since Scarlett Johansson's character is an alien who preys on single men to do unknown acts, shown through the physical metaphorical abstractness of drowning, she is unknown to the humanity. The critical turning point is her sympathy for one man (Tesco man), who was the first to release him and become more aware of her actions. This is definately her downfall as it results in her abuse, and eventually death.
