Realism: 

The Cinema Of Attractions - Focused on audience sensation and immediate experience rather than narrative elements, so it was exclusive or unique to attract spectators rather than telling a story. 

Connected to characters, issues and narratives in every day life rather than escapism. Tend to be shot with minimal use of editing techniques. 


Expressionism: 

Focuses on the manipulation of film through editing and mise-en-scene to suggest meaning to the audience. Fantasy escapism and narrative are the main aspects of this. Evolved from 1900s to 1920s.



Soviet Montage Theory: 

The heavy use of editing to create ideas to gain from a narrative for different ideologies.
