Ideas for Film Coursework

Ooooooooooh here are some ideas for my mini film:

Based on the idealogy of dreams and the blur between reality and fantasy.

^ aesthetic look for dream (inspired by 2011 Jane Eyre)

Narrative - narrative twist, starts with an enigma:

beginning - opening shot of girl waking in field (extreme close up of eyes opening, then establishing shot, inspired by gothic romance aesthetic and jane eyre)

The bridge between would be her waking up and living a normal day, shift from diegetic to non-diegetic when putting headphones and living a normal day, maybe some sharp cuts to show a differ in dream & reality

middle - girl could be writing ? could leave it to active spectatorship to decipher whether its a diary of her real life events or a novel shots she's writing, shots of library, different settings for dreams, progressively getting more intense

as the dreams happen more, the colouring gradually becomes more normal - making the blur more and more confusing

end - in the final dream or penultimate, dream character gives her a ring or accessory, shot of girl next morning - mid-shot of her walking to kitchen or something and her hand is facing camera to show ring, but not to linger on it, perhaps final shot could be her walking past dream character in reality - final shot parallels the opening shot of her eyes in her dream but his in reality

Ideas for shots:

- end shot could be a tracking shot of her walking in normal life (to work), the camera stops following her when she passes Dream to reveal, camera focuses on him, he has a look of realisation on his face, like she's somehow familiar to him but he can't quite put his finger on it, does reserve of her putting her headphones by taking them out and closing his eyes.

Characters:

The female protagonist - perhaps writer, living an ordinary life, dreams intensely and vividly

The Dream character - no dialogue. shown through gestures and facial expressions, mysterious, yet can get how the character is from actions

Genre:

mystery, gothic romance-y, modern realism, fantasy

Cinematic Influences:

- Connect; main influence, lack of dialogue, small gestures mean big things, shot with bright lighting
- Jane Eyre 2011; visual aesthetics of mist for dream sequences
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens; the cuts and editing of the dream sequence, and the symbolism
